For its 17th edition, the Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD) will convene around the theme of ‘Aid: a focus on Africa’.

Now firmly established as the region’s most important event for exchanging humanitarian ideas, values and practices, DIHAD 2020 provides a high-profile platform to discuss the most urgent humanitarian challenges facing the African continent.

Attendees include major aid donors, UAE-based charities, and organisations such as the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, the Red Crescent and Red Cross Movements, UN agencies, NGOs, the IMF and OECD.

This year’s focus on Africa is compelling. Many of its nations continue to face challenges from conflict, poverty, unemployment and the negative effects of climate change. In many senses, there has never been a better time for the world’s humanitarian community to come together and explore viable solutions to these issues, as well as attracting assistance programmes and awareness campaigns from leading aid organisations.

DIHAD will approach this agenda head on, looking to answer key questions, including what has been learnt from past successes and failures? What roles does aid actually play in Africa’s progress? And how can we move from theoretical debate to genuine change?
